Footscray art prize, street art prize and tertiary prize

By entering the Footscray Art Prize (Promotion), you agree to the following conditions:

1.     The promoter is Victoria University (Promoter) (ABN: 83 776 954 731, CRICOS Provider No. 00124K) PO Box 14428, Melbourne, Victoria 8001.

2.     The Promoter is the responsible party in the Footscray Art Prize Group (Partners), which consists of Footscray Community Arts Centre, Maribyrnong City Council, the Rotary Club of Footscray and Victoria University.

3.     All information on 'how to enter' forms part of these terms and conditions. By entering into these terms and conditions you have read, understood and agree to be bound by the terms and conditions.

4.     There are three entry categories: Main, Tertiary, and Street Art. You may enter the Promotion a maximum of two times. You may enter in one category twice, or in two different categories. You must submit two different original artworks if you enter more than one category.  Each entry is charged a fee, as detailed below.  

5.     You will only be eligible for the prize in the category or categories you have entered.

Main

6.     Entry in the Main category is open to Australian residents aged 18 and over.

7.     To enter you will need nominate that you are entering the Main category and provide the Partners with an original artistic work, which includes but is not limited to; paintings, drawings, photographs, engravings, sculptures and installations (Artwork). The Artwork must not have previously been exhibited for an art prize.  

8.     A non-refundable payment of $30 including GST is applicable for each artwork entered.

9.     To enter you must complete an online entry form, which must be received by 5.00pm, 15 March 2019. The completed entry form must be accompanied by: a one page artist biography/CV; a short description of the Artwork (max 50 words); a JPEG image of the actual Artwork named with the appropriate naming format (Lastname_Firstname_ArtworkTitle); video work entries must include a link to a webpage for the video to be viewed and any login details required to access the video; and the appropriate entry fee(s). Entrants will receive a confirmation email once a correct entry has been submitted.

10.  The Artwork must not exceed 1.4 metres x 2 metres x 1.4 metres (depth) or 30kg in weight.

11.  The Partners will select Artworks to display in an exhibition, to be held at Footscray Community Arts Centre (45 Moreland Street, Footscray) from 20 June 2019–20 July 2019. Artworks must be available for display for the entire duration of the exhibition. Only Artworks that are chosen for display at the Footscray Community Arts Centre exhibition are eligible to win the Main category.

12.  Entrants selected for the exhibition will be contacted by the Partners from Monday 22 April 2019.

13.  If chosen for display, the Artworks must arrive at Footscray Community Arts Centre between 10.00am and 05.00pm on Monday 10 June 2019 or between 10.00am and 08.00pm on 11 June 2019. Artworks will not be accepted after this date. Artworks must be clearly labelled on the back with the artist’s name, title of the Artwork and contact details.

14.  Entrants must take responsibility for the transport of their Artwork to and from Footscray Community Arts Centre, including insurance and secure packing for freighted works.

15.  Artworks can be offered for sale to the general public. If you indicate your Artwork is for sale, the price you set will be displayed with the exhibited Artwork. Buyers will arrange purchase through Footscray Community Art Centre. Artworks sold will incur a commission of 25% of the sale price.

16.  Artworks must be collected from Footscray Community Arts Centre between 10.00am and 05.00pm on 22 July 2019 or between 10.00am and 08.00pm on 23 July 2019, unless otherwise approved in writing by the Partners. The Partners may dispose of uncollected works as they see fit.

17.  All care will be taken, however, The Partners will not be responsible for any loss or damage caused to any Artwork, howsoever caused.

18.  There will be one winning Artwork of the Main category selected from the valid entries (Winner).

19.  The Winner will be invited to attend two events

  • The Footscray Art Prize Opening and Announcement on 20 June 2019; and

  • The Rotary Dinner Art Auction on 22 June 2019.

Tertiary

20.  Entry in the Tertiary category is restricted to Australian residents aged 18 and over, who are enrolled in an Australian tertiary institute in 2018 or 2019.

21.  To enter you will need to nominate that you are entering the Tertiary category and provide the Partners with an original artistic work, which includes but is not limited to; paintings, drawings, photographs, engravings, sculptures and installations (Artwork). The Artwork must not have previously been exhibited for an art prize.

22.  A non-refundable payment of $20 including GST is applicable for to each artwork entered.

23.  To enter you must complete an online entry form, which must be received by 5.00pm, 15 March 2019. The completed entry form must be accompanied by: a one page artist biography/CV; a short description of the Artwork (max 50 words); a JPEG image of the actual Artwork named with the appropriate naming format (Lastname_Firstname_ArtworkTitle); video work entries must include a link to a webpage for the video to be viewed and any login details required to access the video; and the appropriate entry fee(s). Entrants will receive a confirmation email once a correct entry has been submitted.

24.  The Artwork must not exceed 1.4 metres x 2 metres x 1.4 metres (depth) or 30kg in weight.

25.  The Partners will select Artworks to display in an exhibition, to be held at VU at MetroWest (138 Nicholson Street, Footscray) from 20 June 2019 – 20 July 2019. Artworks must be available for display for the entire duration of the exhibition. Only Artworks that are chosen for display at the VU at MetroWest exhibition are eligible to win the Tertiary category.

26.  Entrants selected for the exhibition will be contacted by the Partners from Monday 22 April 2019.

27.  If chosen for display, the Artworks must arrive at VU at MetroWest between 10.00am and 06.00pm on 4, 5, 6 and 7 June 2019. Artworks will not be accepted after these dates. Artworks must be clearly labelled on the back with the artist’s name, title of the Artwork and contact details.

28.  Entrants must take responsibility for the transport of their Artwork to and from VU at MetroWest, including insurance and secure packing for freighted works.

29.  Artworks can be offered for sale to the general public. If you indicate your Artwork is for sale, relevant contact details will be provided to potential buyers who can contact you directly to arrange purchase and payment.

30.  Artworks must be collected from VU at MetroWest between 10.00am and 06.00pm on 22, 23, 24 and 25 July 2019, unless otherwise approved in writing by the Partners. The Partners may dispose of uncollected works as they see fit.

31.  All care will be taken, however, the Partners will not be responsible for any loss or damage caused to any Artwork, howsoever caused.

32.  There will be one winning Artwork of the Tertiary category selected from the valid entries (Winner).

Street Art

33.  Entry in the Street Art category is open to Australian residents aged 18 and over.

34.  To enter, you (the Author) will need to nominate that you are entering the Street Art category and provide the Partners with an original artistic design for a street art mural (Artwork). The Artwork must not have previously been exhibited for an art prize.

35.  A non-refundable payment of $30 including GST is applicable for to each artwork entered.

36.  To enter, you must complete an online entry form, which must be received by 5.00pm, 15 March 2019. The completed entry form must be accompanied by: a one page artist biography/CV; a short description of the Artwork (max 50 words); a JPEG image of the mural concept named with the appropriate naming format (Lastname_Firstname_ArtworkTitle); and the appropriate entry fee(s). Entrants will receive a confirmation email once a correct entry has been submitted.

37.  The Partners will select Artworks to display digitally in an exhibition, to be held at Footscray Community Arts Centre (45 Moreland Street, Footscray) from 20 June 2019–20 July 2019. Only Artworks that are chosen for display at the Footscray Community Arts Centre exhibition are eligible to win the Street Art category.

38.  The three shortlisted Artworks (Finalists) will be notified of selection by the Partners from Monday 22 April 2019

39.  There will be one winning Artwork (Winner) of the Street Art category selected from three Finalists.

40.  The winning Artwork will form the basis of a mural to be painted on a public wall, the location to be nominated by the Partners. 

41.  Winner’s Artwork may need to be refined once the site and specific dimensions of the wall has been confirmed.

42.  The Winner will need to be available to paint the mural between 21 June 2019 and 5 July 2019. Subject to change. 

43.  The Partners will cover all costs associated with the painting of the mural by the Winner, and will provide an artists fee to the Author on completion of the work.

44.  As the Author of an Artwork painted on a public wall, you consent to the Partners having the right to remove the mural based on the Artwork at any time in the future.

All entrants

45.  There are three prizes (Prize) to be won:

  • Main Prize – $10,000

  • Street Art Prize – $5,000

  • Tertiary Prize – $1,500

46.  Entrants must be individuals and not companies or other entities. Employees and immediate family members of: the Partners; associated agencies and/or companies, that are any way involved in the Promotion, are not valid entrants in the Promotion. Councillors of the Maribyrnong City Council and their immediate family members are also not valid entrants in the Promotion. Sponsors of the Promotion and their immediate family members are also not valid entrants in the Promotion.

47.  Incomplete, illegible or incorrect entries; entries without entry fees; entries not accompanied by an Artwork; entries received after the closing date; Artworks not suitably framed and ready to hang or otherwise prepared to install; or which breach any law or infringe any third party rights, including intellectual property rights, will not be eligible to win.

48.  The Partners will curate, install and deinstall the exhibitions. If you have specific requirements for your Artwork (i.e. electricity) you must specify this in your entry form.

49.  Finalists are responsible for providing equipment to exhibit their Artwork. All Artworks and equipment must comply with OH&S regulations.

50.  The Winners will be selected based on their Artwork having the most artistic merit in their entry category, as selected by the judging panel appointed by the Partners.

51.  You warrant that you have created the Artwork and the Artwork is original and does not infringe the copyright, moral rights or other rights of any third party. If an Artwork is based on other work, appropriate approval must be sourced and attached to the entry form.

52.  You grant to the Partners on submission of your Artwork a royalty free, perpetual, non-exclusive and irrevocable licence to use, reproduce and communicate to the public the Artwork for the purposes of the Promotion, any purpose connected with the Promotion (now and into the future) and for the Partners advertising and marketing purposes. The Partners will respect the author’s moral right of attribution in the Artwork.

53.  The Winners will not be entitled to any further remuneration as a result of the Partners subsequent use of the Winner’s Artwork.

54.  The Partners will contact the Winners on 21 June 2019, and their name will be published on the Footscray Art Prize and Partner’s websites.

55.  In all matters relating to the Promotion, all decisions of the Partners, Judges and staff will be final and cannot be contested. No correspondence or discussions will be entered into.

By entering the Footscray Art Prize – Young Artists (Promotion), you agree to the following conditions:

1.     The promoter is Victoria University (Promoter) (ABN: 83 776 954 731, CRICOS Provider No. 00124K) PO Box 14428, Melbourne, Victoria 8001.

2.     The Promoter is the responsible party in the Footscray Art Prize Group (Partners), which consists of Footscray Community Arts Centre, Maribyrnong City Council, the Rotary Club of Footscray and Victoria University.

3.     All information on 'how to enter' forms part of these terms and conditions. By entering into these terms and conditions you warrant that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by the terms and conditions.

4.     Entry is open to Australian residents aged under 18 who live or attend school in the Western Region local government areas of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley, and Wyndham.

5.     There are two entry categories, which are based on your school level as of 15 March 2019:

  • Primary school; and

  • Secondary school.

6.     To enter you will need to provide the Partners with an original artistic work, which includes but is not limited to; paintings, drawings, photographs, engravings, sculptures and installations (Artwork). The Artwork must not have previously been exhibited for an art prize.  

7.     To enter you must select your entry category, provide the Partners with your age and complete an online entry form, which must be received by 5.00pm, 15 March 2019. The completed entry form must be accompanied by: a short description of the Artwork (max 50 words); and a JPEG image of the actual Artwork named with the appropriate naming format (LastName_FirstName_ArtworkTitle). Entrants will receive a confirmation email once a correct entry has been submitted.

13.  All care will be taken, however, the Partners will not be responsible for any loss or damage caused to any Artwork, howsoever caused.

14.  There will be two winning Artworks selected from the valid entries (Winners). There will be one Winner in each category.

15.  The Partners will contact the Winners on 21 June 2019, and their name will be published on the Footscray Art Prize, and Partner’s websites.

16.  You may enter the Promotion only once.

27.  In all matters relating to the Promotion, all decisions of the Partners, Judges and staff will be final and cannot be contested. No correspondence or discussions will be entered into.
